Weight Loss Starts in the Colon
material found in the foods that you have eaten over the years?
Many processed foods, such as milk, enriched and bleached flour
and sugar, as well as packaged foods filled with preservatives
contain toxic elements that slowly build up in the intestine.
This build up causes a hardened impacted glue to form within the
intestines, decreasing the body's ability to absorb nutrients,
lowering “metabolism” rates and causing unhealthy weight gain.
When the body cannot absorb the nutrients in food properly,
energy levels are lowered and the risk of serious illness is
dramatically increased.
Certain detoxification supplements target the toxic build up in
the intestine, breaking it up and flushing it from the colon.
Once these detoxification processes have been completed you will
have more energy, an increased feeling of over all wellness and
a lower risk of potential illness. I will tell you how you
where to go to get started on cleansing your colon soon, but
first, let’s look at some more information about how a congested
colon is impacting our societies health!
Findings published in the January 15, 2002 Journal of the
American Medical Association state that at least 47 million
American adults - or more than one in five - have “metabolic
syndrome”, a disorder that often includes a beer belly, high
blood pressure, poor cholesterol readings and high blood sugar,
according to a disturbing new study. A “beer belly” is not just
from drinking beer, it is usually formed from undigested food in
the lower intestines!
Metabolic syndrome has been recognized since at least the 1920s,
though it has been called different things over the years.
Though experts say the syndrome may be caused by a combination
of genes and lifestyle factors, lifestyle - including overeating
and a lack of exercise - are probably the most important
factors, said Dr. Earl Ford of the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, who led the study.
''When you consider that 50 to 60 million Americans have
hypertension, about 60 percent of adults qualify as overweight
or obese, and there are 16 million Americans with diabetes, I knew
the number would be fairly large,'' Ford said. Metabolic syndrome
greatly increases the risk of diabetes, heart attacks and stroke.
The CDC reached its estimate by using the first-ever specific
definition of the syndrome developed by the National Institutes
of Health. The definition could help doctors identify and treat
patients by getting them to lose weight, eat better and get more
exercise.
According to the NIH definition, metabolic disorder is present
when a patient has any three or more symptoms: a waist measuring
at least 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women; levels of
triglycerides - fats that circulate in the blood - of at least
150 milligrams per deciliter; HDL levels of less than 40 mgs in
men and less than 50 mgs in women; blood pressure of at least
135/80; and blood sugar of at least 110 mgs.
Dr. Margo Denke, a professor of medicine at University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, said ''This is one
syndrome that is exquisitely lifestyle-sensitive - it's an area
where we can get people to pay attention and if they do pay
attention, they’re big rewards,'' she said.
Obviously big rewards include more than just losing weight here.
A long and high quality life is the biggest reward you can
receive when you apply the TRUE information we bring to you
through the HYBN newsletter. Keep after it, we believe in you!

5 Tips to Fighting the Common Cold
Are you ready to learn how to fight the common cold and flu virus?
Did you know that the U.S. spends $40 Billion a year on the common cold but you could prevent it for next to nothing?
Yes, you heard right, the common cold costs the U.S. economy roughly $40 billion a year, much more than other conditions like asthma, heart failure, and emphysema.
Before I share the tips with you, let’s look at the statistics.
"From a bottle of cough syrup to missed time at work and school, the price tag of catching a cold really adds up," says researcher A. Mark Fendrick, MD, with the Consortium for Health Outcomes, Innovation, and Cost Effectiveness Studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His study appears in the Archives of Internal Medicine. In it, he reports the results from a nationwide telephone survey of more than 4,000 U.S. households. Nearly 75% reported suffering from a cold within the last year, with an average of 2.5 episodes.
"A cold is the most commonly occurring illness in humans, so it was no surprise that there are approximately 500 million colds each year in the U.S.," says Fendrick. "What was a surprise is how often the public uses the health care system to treat a cold."
Those surveyed reported their doctors' bills, over-the-counter medication costs, and costs of prescription drugs. They also reported days when work and school were missed, a cost that is generally overlooked, says Fendrick. Fendrick found that
Americans spend $2.9 billion on over-the-counter drugs and another $400 million on prescription medicines for symptom relief. Also, more than $1.1 billion are spent annually on the estimated 41 million antibiotic prescriptions for cold sufferers -- even though antibiotics have no effect on a viral illness.
"We found that the common cold leads to more than 100 million physician visits annually at a conservative cost estimate of $7.7 billion a year," Fendrick says. "More than one-third of patients who saw a doctor received an antibiotic prescription. While these unnecessary costs are problematic, what is more concerning is how these treatment patterns contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance, a significant public health concern."
The study reports that an estimated 189 million school days are missed annually because of a cold. Also, parents missed 126 million workdays in order to stay home to care for their child.
When added to the workdays missed by employees suffering from a cold, the total economic impact of cold-related work loss exceeds $20 billion. "Because there is no cure for the common cold it gets far less attention than many less common conditions," Fendrick says. "An intervention that would effectively prevent or treat the cold would have a huge clinical and economic impact, far greater than for chronic diseases that we hear about on a regular basis."
Wow, the last time I checked there IS a cure for the common cold it's called a healthy immune system, unfortunately you can't make much money by helping someone build one, so our health care industry isn't interested!
Here are the 5 simple tips that will help you prevent and fight the common cold:
1) Sleep! Most research has shown that the optimal level of sound sleep a person should get a night is 8 hours. Without it your body can not fight off outside invaders such as bacteria and virus’
2) Water intake. If you are not drinking 8-10 twelve ounce glasses of purified water a day your body will have a hard time executing the crucial steps needed for a healthy immune system.
3) Avoid sugar and white flour intake. In the October 1993 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine there is a study that shows “the ingestion of 100 grams of sugar will stop the production of white blood cells for six hours.” White blood cells are what fight bacteria and virus’ in the human body. Without normal white blood cell production the immune system will not function.
4) Wash your hands through out the day. Use hot water and regular soap, not anti-biotic soap which weakens the immune system.
5) The daily supplementation of certain vitamins, minerals, and herbs will support the immune system to ward of infection. Some of the most effective supplements are; Vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, selenium, bio-flavonoids like quercetin, and herbs like Echinacea, St Johns Wort, Fenugreek, Cats Claw, and Astragalus.
So don’t wait for your immune system to fail! Put these 5 tips into action today!

5 Tips to Burning Fat
Do you want to know how to burn fat? Here are five great tips to help you do it! It’s easier than you may think!
We trust you had a great holiday, but this time of year always finds many of us saying that what we received was a few extra and unwanted pounds. And now we want to know how to go about getting rid of them.
Yes, as we have talked about before, the Holidays seem to be an excuse for people to go overboard with their food indulgences. Well, now that we are towards the tail end of the Holidays, it's time to get started back.
To be straight forward, I want to start off by saying this.
The ONLY way to burn fat is through AEROBIC exercise.
That means it's time to get on the bike, treadmill, stair master, elliptical trainer, in the pool or on the road with your best jogging shoes. YES, by increasing your lean muscle mass through ANAEROBIC weight training you can increase your metabolism, but the majority of fat that your body will burn is going to happen through AEROBIC exercise.
I wanted to give you all some tips for when you head back into the gym…hopefully in the next day or two!
1) If you are going into a commercial gym, make sure that you are familiar with all the machines. Do NOT be embarrassed to ask someone on the gym staff a question or two.
Believe me, it is a lot less embarrassing than having them call an ambulance because you used the machine wrong and injured yourself!
2) The most important thing to remember when exercising with weights is to focus on your form. The number one reason people are injured while working out is that they have incorrect form. Again, if you are not sure about your form, ask a trainer or staff member at your gym.
3) The number two reason for injury is that people use too much weight. Let's not worry about breaking world records just yet! If you injure yourself, you defeat the entire purpose of why you are working out in the first place. It’s pretty hard to exercise with a cast or brace on your arm or leg, as I know from personal experience!
4) Another key here is making sure that you are drinking enough water before, during, and after your workout. The bodies 300 trillion cells need water to transport nutrients into the cell for energy, and transport the by-products of the cell out.
5) Lastly, always wear comfortable and supportive clothing and footwear when working out. It's not a fashion show as some of those commercials on television would have us believe. You are there to do WORK! But that work is often fun when you are comfortable and relaxed.
And remember not to rush through your workout!
The first few workouts after the Holidays or when starting for the first time are always the toughest, but once you are a week into it you will feel like a million bucks and ready to take on the New Year with a great outlook! Never give up. We are here to support you because we believe YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Fight Depression and Fatigue Naturally
about a natural and effective way to fight depression and
fatigue.
Besides its physical health benefits, exercise is often said to
help people simply feel good. And a growing number of studies
are showing that these mood-boosting effects may even fight
clinical depression.
Researchers found that walking for 30 minutes each day quickly
improved the patients' symptoms--faster, in fact, than
antidepressant drugs typically do. The results indicate that, in
selected patients with major depression, aerobic training can
produce a substantial improvement in symptoms in a short time.

*****************************************************************
Previous studies have suggested that exercise is a potent
mood-booster, and some research indicates that for some patients
regular activity may be a better depression treatment than
psychotherapy or medication. Exactly why is unclear, but
exercise does influence certain mood-related hormones. And it is
also believed to enhance people's sense of control over their
lives.
In one study that compared exercise with antidepressants among
older adults, investigators found that physical activity was the
more effective depression-fighter. (British Journal of Sports
Medicine April 2001;35:114-117)
We are not talking about running a marathon, just
walking as little as 30 minutes can improve symptoms! I
personally have felt these amazing effects after starting an
exercise program when I have been in a mental rut. Believe me,
it will help you too!
In health,
Thomas

Natural Sleep Tips
sleep! Get ready for more health secrets, here we go!
I regularly hear patients complain that they do not get
enough sleep, or that they are still tired when they get up in
the morning, perhaps indicating that they did not get quality sleep.
Just how much sleep should we be getting?
Most research has shown that the optimal level of
sound sleep a person should get a night is 8 hours.
Unfortunately, it is estimated that over the past century a
person's average nightly sleeping time has been reduced by 2
hours. Interestingly enough, many people get distracted by
things like the TV or the Internet instead of heading to bed
when they need to in order to ensure a restful night’s sleep. I
know you are on the Internet right now, but read the rest of
this article before going to bed, it will prove to be useful in
the future!
I have heard the expression "I will sleep when I am dead," used
all too often these days. Well, if you don't get quality sleep,
and enough of it, you might fulfill that old expression sooner
than you think!

*********************************************************
So why do we need sleep? Every human being needs
a certain number of hours of sleep each day to revive brain
cells and other body systems so they'll continue functioning
effectively. So we actually shut down the body at night to
repair both the short-term damage that has occurred during the
day, as well as some chronic health problems that our bodies are
fighting to defeat.
Our natural sleep patterns are controlled by an internal body
clock called a "circadian clock." It regulates body temperature,
hormone levels which regulate metabolism, heart rate and other
vital body functions including our immune system. If someone is
suffering chronic loss of sleep, these important functions soon
become impaired and overall health is usually affected…as is a
person's memory and mood.
How can you determine if you're suffering from sleep
deprivation? Here are a few simple questions you can ask
yourself:
o Do you yearn for naps during the day or find
yourself dozing off at inappropriate times?
o Do you feel out of sorts, anxious or groggy,
especially when you're less active?
o Are you coming down with more colds and flu symptoms
than normal?
o Do you suffer from other medical or emotional
conditions that could be keeping you awake?
o Do you take prescription or the over-the-counter
drugs which may be interfering with your sleep?
So what can you do to ensure yourself a better night’s sleep?
- Create a comfortable sleep environment, which means everything
from a firm mattress to good air circulation to absence of light
and noise.
- If noise or light bothers you, you may want to use a
sleep mask and ear plugs.
- Don't try to fall asleep on a full or
empty stomach and cut back on fluids a couple of hours before
bed.
- Get some exercise - physical activity promotes sleep. Don't
drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks, especially before bedtime
and quit any tobacco use.
- Establish a bedtime ritual – this includes going to bed at the
same time each night. Make sure that you set a specific time
when the TV and computer MUST be shut down.
- Often times it helps to take a warm shower or bath to
soothe your muscles, helping to put you into a relaxed mood for
sleep.
- Stretching before bed will help protect you from tight
muscles when you wake up.
- Lastly, don't take your troubles to bed with you. Try to resolve
your stress before going to bed. You need to sleep to repair
damage, not wrestle with unresolved stress!
Once you discover that a few extra hours of sleep are helping you
to feel more rested, relaxed, and healthy than you have in a long time,
giving up that extra hour on the Internet will have been well worth it.
Now get some sleep!!!!!

Natural Cancer Treatments
one in every two people in the next 15 years. This disease will
affect you personally through your relationships with friends
and family many times over in your lifetime! Before the 70’s,
people would refer to it only by its first letter because there
was so much fear of it. That’s right; I am talking about “The
Big C”, cancer.
Former chief of the World Health Organization's (WHO) cancer
program warned in 2001 that cancer deaths will double over the
next 20 years. The WHO estimated that the number of new cases of
cancer would increase from 10 million to 20 million per year and
the number of deaths from 6 million to 12 million per year. So
far they have been on track!
Three quarters of these patients will live in developing
countries where better sanitation, housing and medical care will
boost life expectancy but bring many more people into the cancer
age range, he explained.
Smoking and diet were each estimated to cause 3 million cancers
a year.
It is hard to believe that cancer rates aren’t rising even
faster! When you look at the fact that there are over 7,000
pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides that can be sprayed on
our foods, and that 90% of the food that Americans consume is
processed with even more chemical additives and preservatives, I
think we should have a much greater cancer rate than we are
seeing. Let’s not forget about chlorinated water, heavy metal
exposures, stress, lack of physical exercise and sleep!
The truth is, the human body is very resilient and adapts to
nearly all situations, for a period of time. The question is,
just how long can your body fight off the factors that lead to
cancer?
For many of us, our bodies are losing this battle and the
outcome will not be good. We are being diagnosed and scared
into starting chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments
immediately, without taking the time to search out effective,
natural treatments. There are SO many natural products and
therapies that I have seen work over the years. In future
newsletter I will talk about some of them specifically, but for
right now I am going to mention a book that will lead you to
some well researched natural cancer treatments. I know you will
find it as fascinating as I did! Weather you are fighting
cancer yourself or know some one who has been recently
diagnosed, this is worth a read.
